Pre-planning meeting(s)
When an individual or group expresses interest in developing an RDS toolkit it may be useful to arrange one or more pre-planning meetings face-to-face or via MS Teams.
An introduction to the RDS at this meeting may be useful - for example, using this presentation in the RDS Learning and Support area.
The requesters and toolkit development team can work together to answer the following key questions:
Purpose and benefits
What do the requester(s) aim to achieve with the new toolkit? Do these aims align with the organisation's health and care priorities? And do the aims broadly align with the Right Decision Service aims of providing practical tools to support decisions and actions that will improve Scotland's health and care? This includes support for health and social care professionals, management and administration staff, patients and the public, and partner agencies.
Scope
What are the key elements of content and functionality the toolkit needs to deliver? Is a new toolkit definitely required, or could it simply be an addition to a pre-existing toolkit? If the requester requires functionality that is beyond the scope of existing RDS 'out of the box' tools, please refer them to the RDS team to clarify requirements and cost.
Resources
Who is the toolkit lead and who will be the key contact for the toolkit development team? What supporting team or group will be available to support development of the toolkit? It is important that a team rather than a sole individual is involved with the RDS project, to ensure sustainability of the toolkit if the lead changes role or is unavailable for a period of time.
Is the toolkit content still to be developed? This will affect timescales and development approach.
To give the requester insight into the commitment required for RDS toolkit development, you might want to introduce them to the six stages of RDS toolkit development, available in the RDS Learning and Support area. This will be covered in more detail at the project initiation stage.
Timelines
When does the requester need the app to go live? (with some exceptions for smaller and critically urgent toolkits, requesters can expect it to take a minimum of six months to launch a new RDS app).
Local governance approval
Local board approval will need to be in place before formally requesting a new RDS toolkit. For example, within NHS GGC an SBAR has to be approved by the eHealth Project Review Group.
