Pericoronitis

Refer to dentist for irrigation & debridement.

If persistent swelling or systemic symptoms use metronidazole or amoxicillin.

Use antiseptic mouthwash if pain and trismus limit oral hygiene.

Drug details

Metronidazole 400mg three times daily

3 days

OR Amoxicillin 500mg three times daily

3 days

Chlorhexidine 0·12-0·2% (do not use within 30 mins of toothpaste). Rinse mouth with 10ml diluted with 10ml water for 1 minute twice daily.

Always spit out after use.

Use until lesions resolve or less pain allows oral hygiene.

Hydrogen Peroxide 6%. Rinse mouth with 15ml diluted in ½ glass warm water for 2 mins three times daily.

Always spit out after use.

Use until lesions resolve or less pain allows oral hygiene.
