PROPOFOL injection 200mg in 20mL (1%)

Indication 

  • Premedication for intubation
  • Less-invasive surfactant administration (LISA)
DRUG DOSE DOSES/DAY ROUTE
Propofol 200mg in 20mL (1%) 1mg/kg Once daily IV

Notes

  • More mature babies often need higher dose
  • pH is 6 to 8.5

Preparation

  • Can be administered undiluted or can be diluted.
  • Slow IV injection over 60 seconds, followed by slow IV flush of 2mL 0.9% sodium chloride.
  • If needed, dose can be repeated once (maximum 2 doses per 24 hour period).
  • Propofol must NOT be administered via a microbiological filter (filters with a pore size less than 5μm).
Solution compatibility Glucose 5%, sodium chloride 0.9%
IV line compatibility aminophylline, calcium gluconate, fentanyl, furosemide, heparin, insulin, ketamine, milrinone, noradrenaline, potassium chloride
IV line incompatibility amphotericin, atracurium, calcium chloride, ceftazidime, gentamicin, phenytoin, vancomycin
