Now that you've built the structure of your toolkit and added your text content, you can begin to add visual and interactive media.

The video below shows how you insert media in a webpage. The example shown is embedding an icon in the "Page settings" section of a toolkit.

A note on icons

Toolkit icons must be square image files, and should be simple enough so that they can be understood on a small scale. Icons may be commissioned by a graphic designer, or you may find free Icon files from websites such as Canva and FlatIcon.

Tip

Tactuum recommends that icons should be square, 128 x 128 px images for the best appearance in the app.

Images

To add an image, you will first need to upload this using the "Media" tab at the top of the screen.

You will have been given access to a media folder where images for your toolkit are stored. If you plan to use a large quantity of images, you should consider using sub-folders to keep these organised. You can create sub-folders within this media folder, making sure that you comply with the standard operating procedure on managing media files.

You can then add images to your folders by dragging them to the space provided, or by clicking to upload.

Tip

Ensure that your images are of a high quality, so that they won't appear pixelated on larger screens

When uploading your image, you will be asked to insert alt-text, and an optional caption. For more information on alt-text and other accessibility considerations for the RDS, see the accessibility standard operating procedure here.

You can now return to your toolkit by clicking the "Content" tab. Navigate to where you would like to place the image, and click the "Image picker" icon on the Rich Text Editor.

You can align your image to the left, centre or right using the align icons on the Rich Text Editor.

To resize your image, double-click and drag the corners.

Password-protecting media files

You can protect the media in a  folder by clicking the "Content" tab to the right of the folder title, and toggling on the "Protect Media" option. Any content will be protected on the web and app so that only users who are logged in via the CMS can access and or download it.

Protected media is best used for documents, and or other assets that are to be downloaded, for example as a downloadable resource on a media page.

Videos

Videos can be uploaded to the Media folder using the steps outlined above for images.

You can then insert links to these videos using the "Link" icon on the Rich Text Editor. Click this icon, and then scroll down to the "Link to Media" button.

You should also select the option for media to open in a new tab when the link is followed.

If you would like the video to appear embedded in the text, you will have to upload the video to an external video player such as YouTube or Vimeo.

You can then use the "Embed" button on the Rich Text Editor and paste in the link to the video, using the public URL.

Tip

When uploading to sites such as YouTube or Vimeo, there is a chance that ads may appear at the beginning or during the video. Check with your organisation's Communications team for guidance on using these platforms.
