What is my risk of developing type 2 diabetes?

A previous diagnosis of gestational diabetes means that you are at a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Up to 50% of women diagnosed with GDM go on to develop type 2 diabetes.

However, not everyone with gestational diabetes thinks of themselves as being at high risk of diabetes. This can prevent you from taking action early. Your risk can then go undetected until serious health problems show up.

In this part of the app, you can  check how you perceive your risk level. If you see yourself as only at low or medium risk then this is at odds with your diagnosis. This will affect your ability to make changes to your lifestyle that reduce your real risk.  You can use this app to learn about the risk factors that put you at risk, and to assess your readiness to change.
