What is Borders Crisis Team (BCT)?
BCT provides short term intensive care for people who are experiencing a mental health crisis using a recovery focused approach.
Main Aims:
- to provide an alternative to hospital admission
- to offer rapid assessment, interventions, practical help and support to people suffering from a mental illness or crisis related illness, for people who require to be seen within a 24-hour period
- to act as an initial point of contact for all GP emergency referrals which are not currently open to a Community Mental Health Team
- to facilitate early discharge from in-patient psychiatry ward
The team focuses on immediate risk management and rapid stabilisation of a person’s mental health and provides a short period of care to help manage the person’s crisis. We work with individuals and their family or carers to help resolve the individual’s current mental health crisis and to assist with the process of recovery.
The team works to provide people with safety, recovery and social inclusion, and adheres to the principles of honesty, openness and integrity. The individual user's experience should be central to the workings of mental health services and the team provides personalised care that recognises each person’s unique path to recovery.
