We look forward to welcoming you to the Discharge Lounge at the Borders General Hospital.
On the day you are to leave hospital you may be transferred to the Discharge Lounge. This is a comfortable area where you can wait until your prescription is ready and your transport arrives to take you home. There is a television, radio and magazines available to you while you wait.
Meals and drinks are served throughout the day and special dietary needs are also catered for.
What is the purpose of the Discharge Lounge?
The Lounge has been set up to make sure you have a relaxed and organised service the day you leave hospital.
At the same time ward staff can prepare your bed for another patient who needs to come into hospital. This then reduces waiting times and improves the speed and quality of the service we provide. (Every patient who is using the Discharge Lounge is helping another patient)
Where is it?
The Discharge Lounge is behind the Royal Voluntary Services (RVS) on the ground floor. You get to it directly from Borders Emergency Care Service entrance
It is open Monday to Friday.
The telephone number is 01896 826018.
Staff
A Health Care Support worker is on duty in the Discharge Lounge.
The staff will check that all the arrangements have been made for you to go home. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your discharge.
For your convenience
If your family or friends are collecting you, they can phone us on the way to the hospital. (Telephone 01896 826018.) Staff can have you ready at the front door to be picked up, to avoid any parking problems.
