Specialist initiation (S1)

FastClix®

  • Restriction: on the advice of Specialist Diabetes Team only
  • One size available – 0.30mm/30gauge [pack size 204, larger pack size may reduce frequency of repeat ordering]
  • FastClix® lancets are preloaded in a small drum. Individual lancets cannot be seen or touched, therefore this may be more suitable for children and those with visual impairment, dexterity issues, or significant needle phobia.

Prescribing notes:

  • Lancing devices are not prescribable on NHS; they are normally supplied with blood glucose meters or can be ordered direct from the manufacturer. 
  • Lancets are designed to fit their brand lancing device however some are universal and fit several lancing devices.  Microdot Plus® and CareSens® are compatible with most lancing devices. They are available in different sizes.
  • The higher the gauge of lancet, the smaller the diameter of the needle and possibly less painful to use.
  • Lancets are for single use only.  The quantity of lancets issued on prescription should match the quantity and frequency of the blood glucose testing strips.

Preferred list (P): First-line formulary choices.

Total list (T): Alternative choices when preferred list options not effective/not tolerated, or not indicated.

Specialist initiation (S1): Specialist initiation, or on the advice of a Consultant or Specialist Practitioner in this therapeutic area. Continuation in primary care is acceptable.

Specialist use only (S2): Supply via hospital, Homecare Service or a hospital based prescription (HBP) for dispensing by community pharmacy. Not prescribed in primary care setting.
