General Notes

Patients should be referred to Respiratory Medicine outpatient clinics when Long Term Oxygen Therapy (LTOT) is being considered.

Formal assessment will determine the appropriateness of home oxygen treatment and the flow rate of oxygen required to correct hypoxaemia and avoid hypercapnia.

Oxygen is now supplied to patients via a contracted company – prescriptions can no longer be dispensed by Community Pharmacies.
