Ceftriaxone administration in paediatric setting

Warning

Dosage: 80mg/kg in severe infection. Dilute 1g vial with 20 ml of saline. This is the equivalent of 50mg/ml.

Children ages 0-1 year: Add ceftriaxone to 25 ml of NaCl 0.9% (remove 25ml from a 50ml bag to give 25 ml.)

Children ages 1-5 years: Add ceftriaxone to 50 ml of NaCl 0.9% 

Children aged 6 years and over: Add ceftriaxone to 100 ml of NaCl.

Note: it would be fine to adjust these volumes or administer in a syringe if this is easier/more appropriate clinically.

Deliver over 30 minutes.
