Please update your RDS mobile app to version 4.7.1

We are pleased to advise that deep linking capability, enabling users to directly download individual mobile toolkits, has now been released on the RDS mobile app. When you install the update, you will see that each toolkit has a small QR code icon the header area beside the search icon – see screenshot below. Clicking on this icon will open up a window with a full-size QR code and the alternative of a short URL for sharing with users. Instructions are provided.

You may need to actively install the update to install RDS app version 4.7.1 to see this improvement. Installing this update is also strongly recommended to get the full benefits of the new contingency arrangements – specifically, that if the RDS website should fail, you will still be able to download new mobile app toolkits.

To check your current RDS version, click on the three dots bottom right of the RDS app screen. This takes you to a “More” page where you will see the version number.  To install latest updates:

On iPhones – go to the Apple store, click on your profile icon top right, scroll down to see the apps waiting to be updated and update the RDS app.

On Android phones – these can vary, but try going to the Google Play store, click on your profile icon top right, click on “Manage apps and device”, select and update the RDS app.

Please get in touch with ann.wales3@nhs.scot with any questions.

Childsmile is a national programme designed to reduce oral health inequalities and help improve Scotland’s oral health among children.  It is funded by the Scottish Government and has three main components; Toothbrushing, where we distribute multiple packs to children for take home use and support daily toothbrushing in nurseries and schools.  Community and Practice, where we address oral health inequalities through embedding support workers in communities to offer oral health support.  Fluoride Varnish, where we deliver preventative care interventions for children aged two years and upwards who are at increased risk of dental decay.

At Childsmile we work closely with nurseries and schools as well as health visitors, dental practices, The Public Dental Service and the Oral Health Improvement team to reduce inequalities in oral health and ensuring access to dental services for every child across Greater Glasgow & Clyde.  Childsmile can assist families with young children giving oral health advice and help register and maintain regular attendance at the dentist.

We work in partnership with the Health Visitors to assist families with children from birth to pre- school age, offering advice on healthy low sugar weaning foods, suitable drinks and snacks for babies, dental registration from birth and when to introduce toothbrushing.

We work closely with education staff and school nurses to deliver the National Toothbrushing Programme and Fluoride Varnish Programme in designated nursery, primary and additional support needs schools throughout Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The Childsmile team provide oral health resources to Health Visitors, registered child minders and dental practices as well as delivering and setting up all the toothbrushing resources for the Toothbrushing Programme.

The Childsmile Programmes are delivered by a team of Dental Health Support Workers and Oral Health Practitioners/Assistants.  The Dental Health Support Workers deliver all of the Childsmile Programmes, while Oral Health Practitioners/Assistants deliver the Toothbrushing programme in allocated nursery and primary schools.  We also have Extended Duties Dental Nurses within the team who can deliver the programme within dental practice and apply the fluoride varnish within practice and within nursery and school settings.
