Clinics & Outpatient Services

Warning

Booking forms should be completed and placed in the patient’s notes for the following clinics: Virtual Fracture, Knee, Maxillofacial and ENT Clinic. All other clinics to be booked as described below.

Burns

There is a virtual burns clinic for adult patients at GRI. A referral email should be sent to griburns.clinic@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

Eyes

The Glasgow Ophthalmology Acute Referral Centre (ARC) is based in the Ophthalmology Department at Gartnavel General Hospital.

Opening hours: Mon-Sat 0900-1630.

Referrers can arrange an appointment in 2 ways:

1. Urgent appointment with 24-48hrs

Out of Hours:

1630-0900 Mon-Sat and all day Sunday.

  • Review of emergency eye problems can be arranged with the on call ophthalmologist via GGH switchboard: 0141 211 3000.

Please ensure that for all urgent appointments the patient’s notes are completed and scanned onto clinical portal prior to them leaving the department.

Fracture

Daily. Ensure notes completed and scanned to portal for viewing by the orthopaedic team at the clinic. Please ensure that the telephone number for the patient is correct on the referral.

Fractures requiring follow up are now managed at the virtual fracture clinic. X-rays are reviewed by the Orthopaedic Consultant the following day and the clinic will telephone the patient with a management plan after discussing their x-rays. Please familiarise yourself with the management of fractures in our ED.

Knee

This is physio led with orthopaedics involvement. It is suitable for acute haemarthrosis and complex knee injuries.

Maxillofacial

Clinics at GRI suitable for most conditions

Vaccination Centres

GP practices in the GGC area will now not be involved in ad hoc vaccinations eg. hepatitis/DTP where they have never completed their primary course. These will now be undertaken by vaccination centres. This can be arranged by submitting an online referral.

The patient will be contacted to arrange an appointment at a vaccination centre.

Please advise the patient that they may receive a call from an 0800 or withheld number.

NERS

North East Sector Rehabilitation Service (NERS) Out of Hours Referral form

NERS amalgamates Supported Discharge and Community Physical Disability and Older People’s Teams. They have rapid access to homecare, equipment, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and pharmacy.

NERS will assess the patient at their home the next day and provide appropriate services to allow patient to remain at home.

Provides input into patients with:

  • a new event (eg fall/ UTI) that has changed their functional status and support patients at home to avoid unnecessary hospital admission. Although most patients referred to the service are elderly there is no lower age limit for referral. Patients are assessed in the ED to determine their needs to ensure safe discharge.
  • community elderly patients that have a general decline in their function with support to allow them to remain at home.

Physiotherapy

Direct Access: Community based physiotherapy can be accessed through GP practices. Provide the patient with a self referral form which they can fill out and take to their GP. The physiotherapist will issue an appointment once they have vetted the referral.
