Age and stage development - 0 to 18 years
Typical development for each age and stage of childhood
“Human sexuality is a natural part of human development through every phase of life and includes physical, psychological and social components.” (World Health Organisation).
This section is a guide to what is considered to be typical development in relation to sexuality throughout childhood. It includes:
- guidance about which behaviours are developmentally expected, which behaviours are of concern and how to respond.
- information about the support and learning all children and young people need from staff and carers at each stage of development. Links to helpful resources are included to support this informal learning.
