This is our internal sense of our own gender.

A cisgender person is someone who identifies with the gender they were assigned at birth.

A person who is transgender does not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth.

A non-binary person identifies in a way other than male or female.

Gender expression is our external physical appearance and behaviour that is related to gender, for example, the way we dress.

Pronouns – These are words we use to refer to someone in place of their name for example, ‘she’, ‘he’, ‘they’.

If we are not sure what pronouns to use, it’s best to ask the person: ‘how would you like me to refer to you?’ ‘what are you comfortable with?’ (10)
