Assessing Fluid status is known to be fraught with challenge and our individual assessments are not always accurate.

In the context of hyponatraemia it is key to identify significant fluid overload and deficit.

 

Please consider:

- History is key (including medications)

- Examination - focus on peripheral oedema, JVP, mucous membranes

- lying and standing blood pressure to assess fluid deficit (if possible)

- Urea - significantly changed from previous results?
