General Notes:

• Where there is a collection, drainage is advised. Repeated antibiotics alone, without drainage, are ineffective in treating or preventing the spread of infection.
• Where samples are submitted for culture & sensitivity, pus samples are preferred to swabs. Please provide relevant clinical & location detail (e.g. submandibular abscess; theatre) when ordering the test to ensure the correct tests are performed by the laboratory.
• Doses given are for normal renal function in an average adult population. Dosing in renal impairment may differ. Please refer to the renal drug database for advice, or speak to a pharmacist. 
• Check previous sensitivities and resistance before prescribing.
