What dementia looks like as it progresses depends on the type of dementia as well as the individual characteristics of the person experiencing it.  Everyone’s experience of dementia is unique.  There are things you can do which may slow down or help you manage the memory loss that is part of dementia:

Regular physical exercise that includes aerobic, resistance and balance or a combination of all three, 3-5 times a week, will boost your physical health and your cognitive function.  Following the recommendations in the lifestyle section of the app (include link) around healthy eating, stopping smoking and keeping on top of other physical health conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes will also help.  The bottom line is that things which are good for your body are also good for your mind.

Medication can be used to help treat the symptoms of some types of dementia.  The doctor who makes a dementia diagnosis is usually the person who will discuss medication with you if they feel this is appropriate.
