Highland Sexual Health referral service (Guidelines)

 SERVICES

  • The Highland Sexual Health Referral Service (HSHRS) is based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, although patients may be seen at any of our Highland clinics. Referrals for patients who require specialist Sexual Health care or referral to the Gender Identity Clinic should be made to this service via SCI Gateway.
  • HSHRS booking operates Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, excluding public holidays.

WHO TO REFER

  • GP’s and/or other authorities can refer any patient who requires specialist HIV, GUM, Gender Incongruence (over 17.5 years old), Sexual or Reproductive input. 
  • Partner Notification – referrals can also be made in the established manner via telephone or e-mail referral

WHO NOT TO REFER

  • Management of Hepatitis B or C
  • Women who are having doubts about an ongoing pregnancy, they should be referred directly to the Social Gynae Service
  • Under 17.5 year olds with gender incongruence should be referred to the Young Persons Service, Sandyford Clinic, Glasgow. NB there is a long waiting list to be seen

HOW TO REFER

  • PLEASE USE THE SCI GATEWAY
  • Non-urgent referrals: use SCI Gateway, launched via the GP application system.
  • There are two referral options:
    • HSH / Sexual and Reproductive Health
    • HSH / Partner Notification
  • Urgent referrals: should be discussed by telephone with the clinic on 01463 888300, choosing the 'Health Advisor in Inverness' option – a message can be left which will be returned promptly
  • Or email nhsh.hsh-healthadvisor@nhs.scot). This address is checked daily Monday to Friday.

Please ensure that the department is informed of any special requirements, such as interpreters, or unsuitable dates for attendance due to other commitments.
