Therapy notes

Zinc oxide and salicylic acid paste

Formulation and dosage details

Formulation:

Ointment unlicensed range of strengths, eg, 0.2% to 4%. NHSS Pharmaceutical Specials Service: pssoffice.tayside@nhs.net

Dosage:

Subacute and chronic psoriasis: spread thinly on the affected skin only.  Apply to skin or scalp for maximum 1 hour, then wash or shampoo off (‘short contact’ regimen).

  • Usually used under hospital supervision.
  • Contains salicylic acid.
