Non-gonococcal urethritis (Antimicrobial)
- Cases of suspected NGU should be tested for Chlamydia, gonorrhoea and Mycoplasma Genitalium.
- Full STI screening to also include HIV and syphilis is recommended.
- It is recommended that patients with suspected NGU are referred to Sexual Health
- Those with recurrent or persistent symptoms should be referred to Sexual Health.

Drug details
First episode. Test for C. trachomatis and M. genitalium.
Doxycycline 100mg twice daily
7 days
OR Azithromycin 1g stat then 500mg once daily for 2 more doses
3 days (2g) in total
Levofloxacin should only be used if both doxycycline and azithromycin are not suitable.
Seek advice for recurrent or persistent infection.
