Warning
  • Testing is only available in Highland Sexual Health and some other secondary care settings.

  • Full STI screening should be offered, to include chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis.
  • Test +/- treat current partner(s).

Drug details

Confirmed Mycoplasma genitalium infection, uncomplicated infection.

Doxycycline 100mg twice daily, then follow with azithromycin as per below.

7 days

Followed by Azithromycin 1g stat then 500mg once daily for 2 more doses

for 3 days (2g) in total

If the organism is known to be macrolide-resistant or where treatment with azithromycin has failed, use for symptomatic patients (and their regular partner).  See EMEA and MHRA cautions on fluoroquinolone use and side effects.

Moxifloxacin 400mg once daily (see BNF warnings and MHRA Drug Safety Alert (updated 22 January 2024))
