Referrals to the Glasgow Burn Service can only be made through Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Royal Hospital for Children switchboards.
Adult (≥16yo) referrals
- You can discuss a major or minor burn with our service.
- Most minor burns can be managed as outpatients. Our on-call team will be able to advise you.
- Inpatient burn referrals from other hospitals/ wards will be reviewed by the Burn Outreach team and triaged accordingly; it is unlikely that they will be accepted for transfer acutely.
- The referral process is as follows:
- Contact the Plastic Surgery on-call service in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and refer to:
- Plastics 1st on call via GRI switchboard 0141 211 4000, page 13245
- If unable to reach, please escalate to on-call registrar and/or 1st or 2nd on Consultant via GRI switchboard.
- Contact the Plastic Surgery on-call service in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and refer to:
Paediatric (<16yo) referrals
- You can discuss a major or minor burn with our service.
- Many minor burns can be managed as outpatients. Our on-call team will be able to advise you.
- We are happy to offer advice for suspected non-accidental injuries, but the process should be commenced by the referrer, with careful documentation of concerns and photographs to aid subsequent investigations.
- The referral process is as follows:
- If in hours, refer directly to Royal Hospital for Children Plastic Surgery Registrar (escalate to RHC Consultant if unable to reach) via switchboard 0141 201 0000 or page 13931. Do not refer to GRI in hours.
- If out of hours, contact on-call Plastic Surgery Registrar via GRI switchboard 0141 211 4000. Please note there is no resident Plastic Surgery registrar in RHC out of hours.
- If unable to reach the registrar, please escalate to on-call 1st / 2nd on Consultant via GRI switchboard.
