What is Neuro Physiotherapy?

Neuro Physiotherapy is the term used for a physiotherapist who specialises in neurological conditions.

Why might I need Neuro Physiotherapy?

You may need neuro physiotherapy to improve your movement, posture, strength, balance or walking.

DBS can lead to balance and walking changes.   You may therefore require therapy prior to or at any point after surgery.

What therapy will I get?

Neuro physiotherapy may be part of the DBS assessment process looking particularly at balance and walking tests.  These tests will be discussed with the team to assist the decision about suitability for surgery.

Every patient, their condition and response to DBS is individual, but we can also:

  • Maximise your strength, balance and walking prior to surgery.
  • Offer therapy after surgery for any changes to walking and balance.

How will I get therapy?

We can offer face to face or video appointments

If you are concerned about your mobility or balance please ask your Consultant or any member of the team to make a referral.

Therapy can be offered from our DBS Neuro Physiotherapist or more locally.
