Training Arrangements
Admin staff may have the role of distributing information on allergy and anaphylaxis training days to all school staff. In this case, admin staff should stay updated in the training opportunities offered to schools in line with local policy.
Admin staff may also be designated the role of monitoring the staff who have completed training and notifying those when refresher training is required. Admin staff will also need to receive training in managing allergic reactions – this is a priority for ALL school staff.
The EAACI recommends that face-to-face training is completed annually by a trained professional and refresher online training completed every 6-months.
Where in-house training may not be available, staff should complete e-training courses such as:
- AllergyWise online course by Anaphylaxis UK
Designed to ensure all school staff can recognise the signs of a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) and have the confidence to safely manage pupils with allergies. - Online Allergy Training | Food Standards Scotland
This training would benefit any staff member, particularly in the prevention of allergic reactions. Completion also counts towards CPD.
Training arrangements should be clearly outlined in the school’s anaphylaxis policy.
Trainer devices can also be ordered for staff and pupils to practice the administration technique. Follow the link to the manufacturer’s website and order the device for free:
