Referral to the service

New Baby and Prenatal Referrals should be directed to the Cleft Clinical Nurse Specialist Team by leaving a voicemail on 0141 452 4905 and also by emailing the below referral form to ggc.cleftnursescotland@nhs.scot

This service is provided from Mon-Fri. We also provide an on call service for weekends and public holidays.

A Clinical Nurse Specialist will be in contact to discuss the referral and aim to provide input within 24 hours of the referral being received.

Adult patients may be referred by another health professional, but may also wish to self-refer.

When you come to the Cleft Team as an adult (15+) wanting further input, your first appointment is used to discuss any concerns you have about your cleft, and/or any input you would like at this time.  From this discussion, you will be referred to the appropriate member(s) of the Cleft Team.

All new or returning adults must complete the below referral form and questionnaires (Adult Assessment Pack) and return them by post to the address as follows:

The first appointment is held by a Clinical Psychologist from the Cleft Team - this appointment is not a therapy appointment, but a discussion about the input you would like at this time.  However, as part of this you will be asked about feelings about your cleft and general wellbeing, to help plan your care.

The Cleft Clinical Psychology service provide specialist support (and accept referrals) for individuals and/or families with psychological concerns directly related to cleft/velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI) or its treatment. For example: worry/decisions about treatment; coping with diagnosis; confidence; challenging social situations; distress/frustration around appearance/speech.
