Description: learning objectives include;

  • Be able to define the meaning of Shared Decision making and understand its importance. 
  • Have observed the structure of a "what matters" conversation. 
  • Appreciate what Value based healthcare means to a person receiving care, by understanding the potential benefits and costs (risks, harms, and burden) to the patient of treatment options. 
  • Understand the importance of reducing 'waste' by avoiding low value tests or interventions that are unlikely to benefit the patient person or may even cause harm.  
  • Be able to describe the concept of consent as a process not an event 
  • Be able to understand how "Choosing wisely" questions can prompt a conversation at a consultation 

Target audience: all health and social care staff.

Access: currently available to NHS Lothian staff with plans to be available to all NHS staff via TURAS.
