Allowance

Annual Leave entitlements vary depending on NHS years and how long they are in our department.

For trainees in service for 5 years or under= 28 days per year + bank holidays

If on 3rd or higher paypoint scale or over 5 years service they get 33 days + bank holidays

 So for the majority of junior doctors:

  • 4 month block: 9 days (10  in 1 block per year) plus any worked public holidays back
  • 6 month rotation: 14 days plus any worked PHs back

Annual leave

Requests for additional annual leave and study leave should be done with 6 weeks’ notice where possible. They should be emailed to Alisha.Cairns@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and the consultant responsible for the rota tier with a completed leave request form. 

Study leave

Study leave is requested on the a leave request form  and is authorised by the consultant responsible for the rota tier.

Fy1s do not get additional study leave.

As a general rule we don’t tend to allow study leave for ‘revision’ for exams but will consider on an individual basis.

Funding for study leave:

  • Foundation doctors, IMT, StRs, GPs = NES ( apply directly)
  • Clinical Fellows: department budget. Fill out  expenses form, send to Sandra and our General Manager will authorise it.
