Shampoo Preparations

Preferred list (P)

CAPASAL® shampoo

  • Coal tar with coconut oil and salicylic acid.

ALPHOSYL 2 in 1® shampoo

  • Coal tar.

Alphosyl 2 in 1 shampoo has been discontinued.

KETOCONAZOLE 2% shampoo

 

Specialist initiation (S1)

SELENIUM SULFIDE 2.5% shampoo

Selenium sulfide shampoo has been discontinued.

CEANEL® concentrate shampoo

  • Cetrimide with undecenoic acid. 

Scalp Preparations

COAL TAR WITH SALICYLIC ACID AND PRECIPITATED SULFUR ointment (Sebco®)

 

Hirsutism

EFLORNITHINE 11.5% cream

  • SMC Restriction: for use in women where alternative drug therapy is ineffective, contraindicated or considered inappropriate.
  • Discontinue if no improvement after 4 months.

 

Specialist initiation (S1)

Preferred list (P): First-line formulary choices.

Total list (T): Alternative choices when preferred list options not effective/not tolerated, or not indicated.

Specialist initiation (S1): Specialist initiation, or on the advice of a Consultant or Specialist Practitioner in this therapeutic area. Continuation in primary care is acceptable.

Specialist use only (S2): Supply via hospital, Homecare Service or a hospital based prescription (HBP) for dispensing by community pharmacy. Not prescribed in primary care setting.
