LATANOPROST eye drops

  • Xalatan® brand increased reporting of eye irritation since reformulation.  For further details see MHRA Drug Safety Update Volume 8 issue 12 July 2015: 2.
  • SMC advice: Monopost® is accepted for restricted use within NHS Scotland for the reduction of elevated intra-ocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension who have proven sensitivity to benzalkonium chloride.

BIMATOPROST eye drops

  • Zimed® (Bimatoprost) Preservative Free 0.3 mg/mL eye drops should be used only in patients who have proven sensitivity to benzalkonium chloride

Specialist use only (S2): Supply via hospital, Homecare Service or a hospital based prescription (HBP) for dispensing by community pharmacy. Not prescribed in primary care setting.
