About this Toolkit

This site provides Palliative Care, End of Life Care, Bereavement and related resources for NHSGGC Health and Social Care Professionals. You will find information on services, education, guidelines and policies in use in the NHSGGC area and links to other local and national resources.

This site will replace www.palliativecareggc.org.uk though both are being maintained at this time and not all current content is published here.

If you work in NHSGGC Acute Adult Services you can also access Palliative Care resources on StaffNet.

If you work outside of NHSGGC area please refer to local resources and the Scottish Palliative Care Guidelines which have recently moved over to this platform.

Palliative Care staff based in community, acute and education teams across NHSGGC.

NHSGGC Library Network provides library and information services to all staff working within NHSGGC and its partner organisations.

Tactuum is a software company based in Glasgow, with an office in the US. Tactuum’s mission is to improve healthcare services through the delivery of digital services supporting healthcare providers and patients.

Accessibility checks

Content has been checked for accessibility in line with the relevant RDS Standard Operating Procedures.

The app is supported by Android 4.4 or later and iOS 8.0 or later devices and is compliant with accessibility standards for native mobile apps.

The website is optimised for use on both desktop and mobile devices in the following browsers - IE9+, Chrome, Edge, and Safari and is compliant with WC3A 2.0 Standards.

Content management and governance

Authorship

Content is created by Palliative Care staff based in community and acute teams across NHSGGC with development and other support from Knowledge Services. 

Technical maintenance and updating of the app is carried out by Tactuum Ltd and funded through the National Decision Support Programme led by Healthcare Improvement Scotland.

Review and Approval

The Editorial team monitors content on an ongoing basis and review content upon agreed review dates.

Key content suppliers can notify the Editorial team of required updates to to any published/linked resources as and when needed. The Editorial team will approve non guideline content and can do this outwith scheduled group meetings.

RDS automated alerts when review is due will be sent to the Editorial team.

NHSGGC Clinical guidelines are developed by NHSGGC clinicians with the support of clinical governance.  The clinical guideline framework sets out how NHSGGC develops, reviews, approves and monitors clinical guidelines.  If a guideline on the clinical guideline platform is past its review date, it is currently undergoing the review process as per the clinical guideline framework

Evidence base

Locally generated content is produced/overseen by Specialist Palliative Care Staff with support from key colleagues in Knowledge Services, Pharmacy, Clinical Governance, Information Governance and other relevant departments. All guidelines which are linked to via the National Palliative Care Guidelines toolkit are of course subject to their own evidence sourcing.

The content within this app/website is based on current evidence and best practice, however it is intended to be applied alongside sound practitioner judgement. As such, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is not responsible or liable for management decision made on the basis of the information provided via this app/website.

Use of this app within education settings should always be in accordance with local policies and guidance with regard to practice and mobile device usage.

Governance sign-off and ongoing development

This toolkit forms part of the NHSGGC Digital Strategy. We have established an Editorial team to oversee development and maintenance of this toolkit. 

Guideline content whether local or national is subject to governance process outwith this Editorial team.

NHSGGC Clinical guidelines are developed by NHSGGC clinicians with the support of clinical governance.  The clinical guideline framework sets out how NHSGGC develops, reviews, approves and monitors clinical guidelines.  If a guideline on the clinical guideline platform is past its review date, it is currently undergoing the review process as per the clinical guideline framework

Monitoring and acting on feedback and complaints

The email for the Editorial team is available in the "Key contacts" section above and can be used to highlight any feedback or complaints.

A contact form is provided to facilitate direct communications via this toolkit. All communication regarding feedback/complaints will be recorded. Minor issues will be dealt with by the Information Officer and passed to Knowledge Manager if deemed significant and/or involving technical issues. All other feedback/complaints will be communicated to the Editorial team and appropriate action will be decided upon. This could include investigating serious queries about content. Any issues raised about services will be passed on directly or through appropriate channels.

Risk assessment

We have a risk log that flags potential risks and mitigating measures.

User testing

Functional testing carried out by the Editorial team as content is added and on subsequent updating. User testing of this toolkit has been carried out with local Palliative Care Resource Nurses Group and during Palliative Care Training/Education sessions (acute and community).  End user acceptance testing also carried out with content suppliers and associated users.
