NHS Library Services

Warning

Using NHS Scotland libraries

To take full advantage of our libraries you will need to become a member. All students on placement are entitled to join and once you’ve completed an Athen registration form you will be able to borrow books and access our services. You can join the library by signing up for a NHS Scotland Athens account here.

Books and more

You can browse and borrow from a wide range of books, ebooks, reports and DVDs. The majority of these can be kept for up to four weeks and you can renew items in person, by phone or by email. To find what you are looking for use the Library Search via the Knowledge Network.

Study space and resources

Most libraries offer quiet study space; please speak to local library staff about internet access via NHS computers and/or your personal device.

Online resources

You will find that many of our key online resources are available by accessing the NHS Scotland Knowledge Network (http://www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk/). It includes thousands of full text journal articles and e-books, and databases - including Medline, Cinahl and the Cochrane Library - which allow you to carry out detailed searches of the literature and access a wealth of full text resources. To access these services you will need an NHS Scotland Athens account; all students on placement are entitled to register for an account. You can set up your Athens account from the Knowledge Network homepage.  Advice and support in using these resources is available from Library staff.
