This app was originally developed for participants and teachers on mindfulness-based courses in an NHS healthcare setting (NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde). Because of copyright restrictions with various manuals and teaching, we had to limit access to certain sections of the app to participants on locally delivered courses and the healthcare staff delivering them - these sections (Participants and Facilitators) require a password for access.

The section you are looking at now, Community, is open for anyone to use. When we first published the app we didn't expect it would be of interest to anyone outside Glasgow and the West of Scotland, but on analysing usage data we have been pleasantly surprised at how far the app has travelled. So, as we have continued to develop the Community section, we have tried to include more material that will reflect this.

App content is ordered in sections accessed by six tiles on the main home screen:

About

This section contains disclaimers and legal information as well as some background to the app.

Guided Practices

These are all recorded by local NHS clinicians involved in delivering mindfulness courses in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Audio files are embedded in the app so an internet connection is not required (links to streaming audio on YouTube are also provided in case of any issues with the embedded audio).

Practices are grouped into three categories: 'Getting started' for brief (10 minute) practices to support people new to mindfulness; 'Core practices' for a selection of longer practices regarded as core to standard 8-week mindfulness courses; and 'Extra practices' for optional practices for participants to explore mindfulness further.

NHS GG&C Local Services

Information and contact details for local services within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde where mindfulness is offered as a therapeutic intervention.

Resources

Links to mindfulness websites, apps and course manuals which we have found useful both in teaching mindfulness and in our own personal practice.

New this week

Regularly updated links to new or topical mindfulness content that has caught our eye over the last week.

CPD

CPD (continuing professional development) for healthcare staff involved with delivering mindfulness-based interventions. We run regular CPD events in Scotland, and where it's been possible to record talks we will post links to these here. There is also a library of research papers we have found useful, as well as material related to developing mindfulness provision in a healthcare setting. Finally, there is information on the NHS Scotland training pathway for healthcare staff delivering mindfulness-based interventions.
