Abuse - in relationships
Most young people benefit from discussion and guidance about what makes an intimate relationship healthy and what behaviours show that the person respects and cares for you. It can be difficult to know what this looks like if you haven’t had many examples of this growing up.
It’s important that supporting adults help young people to be able to recognise signs that a partner/girlfriend/boyfriend’s behaviour is not respectful and caring and that it is controlling. This can happen in same sex relationships as well as male/female relationships.
