Service aim and description

To improve the health and wellbeing of young people living in Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).

Glasgow City Youth Health Service is holistic and interdisciplinary. Support is available for young people aged 12-19 years experiencing a range of clinical and non clinical issues via 1:1 consultations with Nurses and GPs. A co-ordinated, comprehensive assessment and treatment service is provided with onward referral to other support services where appropriate.

Young people can be seen with the following presentations:

  • Sexual health (pregnancy testing, contraception including implants, STI testing and referral for termination)
  • Support and counselling for a range of mental health issues e.g. Anxiety, depression, stress & bullying. Onward referral to CAMHS when appropriate
  • Drugs, alcohol and risky behaviour
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Sleep disturbance, screentime, gaming and gambling
  • Weight management (Weigh to Go service)
  • Social problems such as homelessness, benefit advice, school avoidance etc.
  • Advice and support on volunteering, training and employment

Glasgow City Youth Health Service provide a universal service but aims to support those most disadvantaged young people.

Service provision

Service staff includes a GP, Nurse, Counsellor, Youth Employability Coach and a Multiple Risk Worker.

Outwith service delivery times, comprehensive wraparound support is provided by the Youth Health Service Nursing Team. This includes liasing with other organisations and support services both statutory and non statutory, and onward referral where appropriate.

Referral criteria

The young person must meet the following criteria:

  • Live in Glasgow City or be registered with a Glasgow based GP practice
  • Aged 12-19 years
  • Young person has consented to referral

Who can refer?

Glasgow City Youth Health Service operates an open referral system. This facilitates referrals from young people, parents, carers, healthcare professionals, social work services, third sector organisations, education staff and GPs within Glasgow City HSCP. GP practice staff should use SCI Gateway.

Process

Referrals to the service can be made by telephone, Monday to Friday 8.30am–4.00pm on 0141 451 2727.

GP practice staff should refer using SCI Gateway entering “Youth Health Service” as the referral destination.

Location/Hours of service

The service is delivered in 9 venues across Glasgow City HSCP, 6.00pm to 9.00pm

North West Glasgow
