Please update your RDS mobile app to version 4.7.1

We are pleased to advise that deep linking capability, enabling users to directly download individual mobile toolkits, has now been released on the RDS mobile app. When you install the update, you will see that each toolkit has a small QR code icon the header area beside the search icon – see screenshot below. Clicking on this icon will open up a window with a full-size QR code and the alternative of a short URL for sharing with users. Instructions are provided.

You may need to actively install the update to install RDS app version 4.7.1 to see this improvement. Installing this update is also strongly recommended to get the full benefits of the new contingency arrangements – specifically, that if the RDS website should fail, you will still be able to download new mobile app toolkits. 

To check your current RDS version, click on the three dots bottom right of the RDS app screen. This takes you to a “More” page where you will see the version number.  To install latest updates:

On iPhones – go to the Apple store, click on your profile icon top right, scroll down to see the apps waiting to be updated and update the RDS app.

On Android phones – these can vary, but try going to the Google Play store, click on your profile icon top right, click on “Manage apps and device”, select and update the RDS app.

Asylum seeking pathway (1022)

On arrival in the UK women will be allocated hotel accommodation.

They are then transferred to Initial Accommodation whilst awaiting Home Office decision (6 months - 2 years).

They may have to share this tenancy with another person unknown to them.

During this time they receive £5/day antenatally, £8/day postnatally. ALL asylum seeking women need an I.D.L. on postnatal discharge to enable Red Cross to apply for maternity grant.

All asylum seeking women should have a Financial Inclusion referral sent via BadgerNet.

Most asylum seeking/refugee women will have already been referred to Red Cross by Asylum Bridging Health Team, if not please refer g.salih@redcross.org.uk

Asylum seeking women will often require an AMMA referral if they are on their own or partner is required to care for children whilst in labour.

List of useful agencies to refer to

All midwives can refer to these services, forms are easy to complete; just patient details and brief explanation of reason for referral, i.e. AMMA - socially isolated, no birth' partner.

Red Cross - socially isolated asylum seeker.

SNIPS midwives are always happy to answer any questions regarding asylum seeking/refugee status.

TARA (Trafficking Awareness Raising Alliance) - women requiring TARA are directly referred to SNIPS.

Asylum Seeker / Refugee - definitions

Asylum Seeker

A person who has left their home country as a political refugee and is seeking asylum in another country.

Refugee

A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution or natural disaster.

"Someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country of origin owing to a wellfounded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race/religion/nationality/membership of a particular social group or political opinion."

An asylum seeker is someone who is seeking international protection but whose claim has not yet
been determined.

A refugee is someone who has leave to remain, is in permanent accommodation, eligible for benefits
and to work.
