Collective Responsibilities

“All agencies have a responsibility to recognise and actively consider potential risks to a child, irrespective of whether the child is the main focus of their involvement”. (National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland 2021 - Updated 2023)

Single Agency Responsibilities

All services and professional bodies should have clear polices in place for the identification, sharing concerns about risk of harm to a child or children. Practitioners are responsible and accountable to adhere to their own professional guidelines, standards and codes of professional conduct.

The National Child Protection Guidance 2021 clearly sets out agency responsibilities for statutory and non-statutory services.   Appendix B provides an overview of those responsibilities.
