The Dermatology Service is based in the Borders General Hospital and is primarily an outpatient-based specialty.  There are purpose-built dermatology facilities within our ground floor outpatient department. 

 The services provided by the Dermatology department include:

  • General Inflammatory Dermatology Clinics (Adult and Children)
  • Skin Cancer clinics
  • Teledermatology
  • Advanced Therapy/Biologics Clinic (Adult and Children/Adolescent)
  • Advice and Guidance photograph referrals
  • Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Meetings
  • Nurse Led drug monitoring and inflammatory diseases clinics
  • Nurse Led Acne clinic
  • Phototherapy – NBUVB and an aim to introduce PUVA
  • Dermatology dressings
  • Advice/support to in-patient ward requests

The Department has strong established links with South East Scotland Cancer Network (SCAN).  We link up weekly for regional skin cancer multidisciplinary meetings.

The department has strong links with neighbouring Dermatology departments in NHS Fife and NHS Lothian: all meeting on a weekly basis for CPD, complex case discussions and CPC meetings.

NHS Borders Dermatology does NOT offer an allergy service.

How to refer:

Via SCI Gateway: Borders General Hospital -> Dermatology -> Borders General Referral

Advice Only: Please email Dermatology@borders.scot.nhs.uk. Advice requests are responded to on Tuesday and Thursday by a consultant dermatologist. 

Emergency ward admissions: Emails regarding admissions will be picked up by the consultant dermatologist on Mondays. Any dermatological medical emergencies where the patient is systemically unwell should be discussed with the medical consultant on-call.
