- Blood culture if febrile or being admitted
Prostatitis
Warning
Recommended duration: 14 days
Can be continued for a further 14 days (up to 28 days total) if needed, based on an assessment of the patient's history, symptoms, clinical examination, urine, and blood tests.
Ciprofloxacin 500mg every 12 hours orally
Avoid fluoroquinolones if taking steroids and the elderly. Review MHRA Quinolone Warning before prescribing.
Alternative for patients 65 years or over or patients with C. diff infection risk.
Trimethoprim 200mg every 12 hours orally
Refer to urology.

Likely organisms: Coliforms (E.coli and other Enterobacteriacae)
