BASHH

PHE, CKS

Opportunistically test those aged 15-25 years who are at risk.

Patients with symptoms, i.e. pelvic pain in women, scrotal pain or urethral discharge in men, urgently refer using the helpline number above or to the relevant service e.g urology / ED / gynaecology. Treat partners

Pregnancy or breastfeeding: azithromycin is the most effective option. (Tetracycline contra-indicated)

Due to lower cure rate in pregnancy, test for cure 4 weeks after treatment.

Rectal Chlamydia – LGV infection should be considered – discuss with sexual health

Test of cure is important in rectal Chlamydia
