Prophylaxis of Catheter Related Sepsis

Important: Notes

Routine use of antimicrobial prophylaxis should be avoided during catheter change.

Consider antibiotic prophylaxis in patients for whom the number of infections are of such frequency or severity that they chronically impinge on function and wellbeing. Prophylaxis should be used for people with a history of catheter associated UTI following catheter change.

Check antibiotic sensitivities for suitable antibiotic.

No antibiotic prophylaxis is required when removing catheter permanently
