Clinical features

Antibiotics are only required if the patient has signs or symptoms of UTI

Investigations

Urine culture

Dipstick tests should not be used for the investigation of catheter-associated UTI

Infection Control

Basic universal precautions

Treatment

Change or remove catheter if possible

If still required, ideally catheter should be removed then replaced 24-48 hours into antibiotic treatment

Antibiotic treatment is as per urinary sepsis or uncomplicated UTI, according to clinical features present
