In 2013 the Scottish Government introduced a new law called the Social Care (Self-Directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013.

This law was made to give people more choice and control over how their care and support is arranged.

Self-Directed Support is about the person's goals and how they achieve these. These goals are also called agreed outcomes.

Self-Directed Support also focuses on the people in the adult's life such as family, friends, neighbours and community groups.

A Self-Directed Support assessment is a conversation between the adult and a social worker or care co-ordinator to gather information about the adult, the adult's strengths and the support they might need.
