Leukotriene receptor antagonists (Formulary)

  • Leukotriene receptor antagonists are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents that can be used as add-on therapy in persistent asthma or in exercise-induced asthma.
  • The efficacy is variable therefore review patients after a 4 to 8 week period of therapy.
  • Do not start during pregnancy.
  • Advise patients that montelukast is most effective if taken in the evening.
