Scottish referral guidelines for suspected cancer

The Scottish Referral Guidelines  for Suspected Cancer support primary care clinicians in identifying patients who are most likely to have cancer and therefore require urgent assessment by a specialist. Equally, the Guidelines help in identifying patients who are unlikely to have cancer, embedding safety netting as a diagnostic support tool.

This section of The Right Decision Service enables  clinicians to easily navigate, by cancer type, the latest urgent suspicion of cancer (USC) referral guidance, good practice points and assessment recommendations.

A number of resources have been developed to support the use of the new SRGs, they can be found in the Resources section.

A summary of all SRG changes has been published on the Scottish Government website along with a pdf version of the full Guidelines.

Supported by NHS Education for Scotland and the Scottish Government's Detect Cancer Earlier Programme, GatewayC is freely available for primary care cancer education.
