No, admission not required

  • Ask referrer to email patient details, telephone number and photographs to Burns Clinic: griburns.clinic@ggc.scot.nhs.uk
  • Advise referrer that the referral will be vetted by the  Nurse-Led Burn Service the next working day and actioned appropriately.
  • Please do not advise referrer that all patients will be brought to Burns Clinic. Some injuries will be suitable for Burn Outreach or community follow-up.

Is this an inpatient referral from another hospital/ specialty?

These referrals are very complex logistically:

  • The patients are often frail, with poor performance status and complex issues, with often the burn being the least significant of their problems.
  • The majority of these patients are suitable for review by the Burn Outreach Team.
  • Advise the referrer to email patient details and photographs to griburns.clinic@ggc.scot.nhs.uk  and explain that the referral will be vetted by the Burn Team.
  • Do not accept these patients without prior agreement by the Burn Team.
