The physiotherapy service at the Royal Hospital for Children works with children and young people, their families, carers and a wide range of other professionals to maximise their physical abilities and independence.

We provide assessment, diagnosis, management and advice to children and young people experiencing challenges with movement, posture and breathing. Our aim is to encourage all the children and young people we see to lead an active lifestyle through play and exploring options for exercise and activity.

Being referred to the physiotherapy service at RHC

Referrals can be made to our service from healthcare professionals within the hospital or by general practitioners (GPs).

Attending Physiotherapy

We see children and young people on wards, outpatient clinics or at school as appropriate and have close links with our colleagues working in the community. Some out-patient consultations are also delivered remotely by telephone and video. For more information on video consultation go to Joining a Video Clinic.

When you are seen by our physiotherapy service we will ask you what matters to you, and following assessment will discuss how we can help you. We will normally give you advice and some exercises for you to practice if appropriate.

The physiotherapy service has close links with Glasgow Caledonian University and supports the training of physiotherapy students. With your consent, a physiotherapy student may be involved in your care under the supervision of your physiotherapist.
