Emergency Department
The Royal Hospital for Children’s Emergency Department is the largest Emergency Department in Scotland. With an annual attendance rate of over 70,000 patients per year it is one of, if not the, busiest Paediatric Emergency Department in the United Kingdom. It is designed to focus exclusively on the needs of children and young people.
We specialise in meeting the needs of acutely ill or injured children and young people. The children and young people seen within the Emergency Department (ED), range from birth to up to sixteen years of age. Some young people over sixteen who are under a specialist paediatric service and also have an acute illness relating to their chronic disease are cared for within the ED.
