Children and Young People

Growing up can sometimes feel like being on a roller coaster. This is because the part of our brain that feels emotions grows quickly during this time. Self care means doing things that help you feel good and stay healthy in your body and mind.
Young people have told us they want some ideas for when they are having a hard time, so we made a list of suggestions. You can choose what works best for you. Sometimes, we also need to talk to a mental health professional. You can use these ideas by themselves or while you wait to see someone.

If you, or someone you know, needs urgent help or is in crisis, call NHS 24 on 111. If you just need to talk with someone, there is help available. The Samaritans are there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can call them on 116 123 (freephone) or email: jo@samaritans.org. Breathing Space offers a confidential phone line for anyone in Scotland feeling low, anxious or depressed. You can call free on 0800 83 85 87.
