Refer urgently

  • Suspected melanoma
  • Suspected SCC
  • High risk BCC
  • Severe eczema or psoriasis
  • Worsening inflammatory rashes
  • Severe acne with systemic upset
  • Acute drug eruptions

Note do not refer lesions on nose or ear to ENT, refer to dermatology with good quality photos which will allow direct referral on to maxillofacial if appropriate.

  • Basal Cell Carcinoma
  • Nail Dystrophy
  • Pruritus
  • Bowens disease
  • Psoriasis
  • Contact dermatitis

  • Eczema - Atopic
  • Solar (actinic) keratosis not responding to treatment as per guidance
  • Urticaria

Do not refer

  • Benign lesions unless diagnostic uncertainty (naevi, skin tags, seborrheic keratosis, dermatofibroma, lipoma, spider naevi, sebaceous cysts)
  • Warts
  • Scabies
  • Molluscum contageousum
  • Allergy testing
  • Hirsutism for laser hair removal or laser acne scar improvement (can refer direct to Livingstone for laser treatment*)

* refer via SCI gateway to Lothian...St John's Hospital...Plastic Surgery...LI Basic Sign Referral. Include good quality pictures. Mature acne scars without evidence of active disease can be treated as well as hair removal for hirsutism with confirmed PCOS.
