Duration

Duration 5 days

First line

Therapy

Amoxicillin oral 500mg three times daily

Add STOP DATE to HEPMA

Notes:

Second line

Therapy

Doxycycline oral 200mg on day 1 then 100mg once daily for 4 days  (do not co-administer with medicines containing Fe/Ca/Mg/Al/Zn, including antacids - see link)

Add STOP DATE to HEPMA

Only prescribe antibiotics if increase in purulent sputum. If no increased sputum purulence then no antibiotics unless consolidation on CXR or signs of pneumonia.
